BIO

He paved the Slovenian sailing success story in the 470 class as a helmsman together with Mitja Margon, with whom he won the first major international championship medals for Slovenia - silver at the World Championships (1998), two silver medals at the European Championships (1998, 1999), gold at the Mediterranean Games; they competed at the Olympic Games in Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000). Čopi then competed with another partner at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and later on as a coach he brought his knowledge and experience of Olympic sailing to the next most successful Slovenian women's 470 class crews that followed. All the while, he remains committed to sailing at the highest level, sailing Extreme 40 and in the RC44 class, where he was part of the Russell Coutts Team Omega crew from the very beginning of the RC 44's development. He is a member of the crew Nika with three world championship titles to his name. Most recently you will see him flying out from his home club in Portorož in a Moth class boat, an old love of his that he started sailing back in 2009, a year later he finished 11th in the class at the 2010 World Championships in Dubai.
